Picadillo is known as the “poor man’s meal”. It is a pork and ground beef hash that and our culture’s version of it is by far the most flavorful, thanks to the inclusion of raisins, olives, capers, peas, and potatoes. This was one of my father’s favorite dinners. He loved it best with the addition of a fried egg on top. This is an adaptation of both my mother’s and stepmother’s recipes and one of many dishes that tastes even better the next day, especially for breakfast. If you happen to have any leftovers, the meat also makes a great pastry filling.
